CAN PSG GO ONE BETTER

The Champions League trophy is seen as the main one at Paris Saint Germain (PSG) since the present owners took charge of the French club several years ago. PSG reached the final of the competition for the first time last season but they were unable to win it due to the brilliance of a certain Bayern Munich team.

Kingsley Coman came back to haunt his former club in last season’s Champions League final. The Frenchman scored the only goal via a header to give Bayern a 1-0 win over PSG. The win over the French club sealed the treble for the Germans last season.

Bayern and PSG met again this season in a repeat of last season’s final but this time, it was in the quarterfinals. At the end of their quarterfinal tie, the Bavarian giants were eliminated via the away goals rule thus leading to question whether or not PSG can go one better by winning the Champions League title they crave for at the club.

The success of PSG in the Champions League this season is likely to rest on the shoulders ofboth Neymar and KylianMbappe. The two players were instrumental to how PSG got the better of Bayern in the quarterfinals.

Neymar laid on two goals in the 3-2 first leg win for the French giants, while Mbappe scored two of the three goals. Brazilian national team player Marquinhos got the other goal for PSG. In the second leg, PSG were able to hold on for a semi-final berth despite losing 1-0 at home through a first half header from Choupo-Moting.

The challenge before PSG now is Premier League leaders Manchester City who are gunning for the treble. If they are able to overcome the Citizens in the final four, they will face the winner of the other semi-final between Real Madrid and Chelsea.

PSG will host Manchester City on Wednesday, April 28 before the return leg at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday, May 4.
