Next year would see Clairefontaine academy clock thirty years, and 2018 holds the promises of a befitting anniversary celebration.
The academy has really done a lot, especially as they have continued to produce generations of incredible France international talent.
The Montjoye castle which is located almost 30 miles outside of Paris and in the depths of a forest is a renovated 17th century building with five-star facilities.
It houses the Clairefontaine project, a brainchild of French Football Federation President FernandSastre. This academy was inaugurated in 1988 by President Francois Mitterand.
In no more than a decade, France led by some of Clairefontainefinest graduands such as Thierry Henry won the World Cup.
In no time, they followed it up with a Euro 2000 success while also adding final appearances in both the 2006 World Cup and the Euro 2016 as well.
Former Liverpool manager, Gerard Houllier, who in the early 1990’s worked within the Federation, had something to say about the academy.
“Those buildings are more than a fantastic tool. They are a cornerstone, a vision, a philosophy, a place of unity. When they opened, we could not imagine the role this place would play ten years later.” Continue reading CLAIREFONTAINE ACADEMY CLOCKS 30 IN 2018
Paris St Germain manager Unai Emery says that the club cannot only rely upon the goals from Edinson Cavani.
He says that the other players should also start contributing on the scoresheet if PSG are to achieve the objectives the season. The club appointed the former Sevilla manager in order to lead them to European glory. Under the leadership of Laurent Blanc, the club was successful in domestic competitions only to be disappointed when it came to Europe.Emery, though, has an incredible record of winning the Europa League three times in succession with the Spanish club.
His arrival, though, has not been met with an upturn in terms of fortunes, as the club continue to struggle. Now, however, the struggles have extended to the domestic competition. PSG were the overwhelming favourites to win the league title at the start of the season. Continue reading Unai Emery Wants Goals from across the Team
Paris St Germain suffered a shock 3-1 loss against Monaco in the league to lose their 100% start to the season.
The team had managed wins from the opening two games as expected. As the strongest team in the French league by quite a long distance, Paris St Germain are realistically targeting the Champions League in order to gauge the performances of new manager Unai Emery. The former Sevilla boss was brought in as the replacement for Laurent Blanc. After achieving three consecutive Europa League titles with the Spanish club,Emery was seen as the perfect candidate to get European success to the French capital.
Emery already has a tough job on his hands to replace star forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The Swedish striker has been the face of PSG for the last few years, but he has joined Manchester United on a free transfer. Even though he has a ready-made replacement in the form of Edinson Cavani, it is widely perceived that the Uruguay striker is not at the same level as Ibrahimovic. PSG have also not made significant inroads into the transfer market due to financial fair play issues with UEFA. PSG were reasonably good in pre-season, but they were shocking against Monaco.

For the past few months, the Uruguayan attacker EdinsonCavani was believed to be unhappy in PSG due to his role in the French club as he has to play in a wide position which isn’t his preferred role but since ZlatanIbrahimovic is in the team as well, Cavani is the one who is being used as a scapegoat.
Napoli was being linked with a move to Cavani. It was with the Italian club where Cavani truly managed to stand out and make performances at a high level but the president of Paris Saint-Germain, Nasser Al Khelaifi has shut down the rumors that were linking Cavani with a move away from the club.
Nasser Al Khelaifi stated that EdinsonCavani is the future of PSG and will not be sold.
“Of course.Cavani is the future of the club. He’s a great player, a great striker, a great man. There’s no problem.”
Even though the president of Paris Saint-Germain shut down the rumors that involved Cavani being sold during the summer transfer window, this hasn’t stopped reports from emerging. More and more clubs appear to be interested in signing the Uruguayan forward including: Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal and Juventus. Continue reading EdinsonCavani will not be sold
Paris St Germain managed a quite impressive victory over Chelsea in the Champions League last 16 round to reach the quarter-finals yet again. This victory appeared improbable a few days ago after PSG managed to only get a 1-1 draw in the first leg at home.
The fact that Chelsea had an away goal under their belt made the blues favourite to progress to the quarter-finals. However, a 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge meant that it was the French club who progressed to the latter stages of the European competition. PSG had come back three times in this tie and midfielder Blaise Matuidi reckons that the coach Laurent Blanc had a major impact.
Blanc suffered defeat at the hands of Mourinho and Chelsea at a similar stage last season. However, he was not going to let that happen once again after he produced an impressive set of tactics that prevented Chelsea from playing their game. Despite chasing the game with 10 men for most of the match – including extra time, PSG were the better team. Blanc’s position at the club has been coming under much threat over the last few months, as the club has not been unable to produce consistent form domestically. Paris Saint-Germaine remains unbeaten in 27 home games in the European competition including qualifiers with their best ever run being the one at the Parc des Princes. The last time they were defeated goes all the back to 23 November 2006 in the UEFA Cup where they went against Hapoel Tel-Aviv.
Paris Saint-Germaine continues to be undefeated in the last five Champions League knockout games they participated in as well as the last five games against German clubs where they drew two and won three.
Ever since being finalists in 2002, Bayer Leverkusen has never advanced further than the last 16 of the Champions League. Six of the games in the Champions League knockout stages have been lost by Bayer Leverkusen.
This is probably the first time that Paris Saint-Germaine has managed to reach the knockout stages of the Champions League in two campaigns consecutively. Last season, Barcelona managed to knock them out in the quarter finals.
The last time they weren’t able to win was in Porto on 3 October 2012. But since then Paris Saint-Germaine have come up victorious in each and every of their last 15 Champions League games. Whereas, Leverkusen only scored a single goal in each of their last four Champions League games. In the competition they have never been able to score more than three goals away from home.
The only three teams that have accomplished more than 90% of their passes in this season’s Champions League are Paris Saint-Germaine with 90.9%, Barcelona with 90.7% and Bayern Munich with 90.4%.
The maximum ratio among the remaining 16 teams in the competition has been achieved by Bayer Leverkusen that have scored 56% of their goals from set-pieces.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic has made a prolific campaign by scoring 10 goals this season itself, scoring seven goals in 31 Champions League knockout games.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic and PSG kicked off the 2014 in a superb fashion as the Swedish striker secured a hat-trick that helped his side defeat Stade Brestois with a final scoreboard of 5-2 as they secured their spot into the next round of the Coupe de France.
Following the conclusion of the match Ibrahimovic said: “It wasn’t an easy match. It’s never easy to play good football on a difficult pitch. We are very happy to have qualified. I am very happy to have started the year with three goals. Now we have to focus on the next game.”
PSG’s Al-Khelaifi rejected the claims that the French side was ever interested in signing C.Ronaldo of Real Madrid.
“All the players we are dreaming about are already at PSG,” said al-Khelaifi. “Ronaldo is a huge player we respect a lot. But he is under contract at Real Madrid, who I respect a lot too. The day I really want a Real player, believe me I will know to talk to President Florentino Perez. It is not the case so far.”
While just about every top European club are searching around the transfer market hoping to make a move for potential new signings that can help solve some of their problems, PSG does not have to go through those stages.
The French side is at the top of their league and is favorites on making it through the next stages of the Champions League as they have to face off against Bayern Leverkusen which are considered to be one of fairly weaker squads of the tournament.
Johan Cabaye and Juan Mata have been linked with PSG but other than that, the team guided by Laurent Blanc can already fight and win for all the trophies they are setting their sights on in this season.
Coming into the new season as the champions, Paris St Germain have been overshadowed by newer rivals Monaco. The team were promoted to the top division only in the summer but they have spent close to £ 150 million in improving the squad. This seems to have paid off because they have made a great start to the season under Claudio Ranieri. Monaco and PSG will be coming up against each other during the weekend in what promises to be the clash of the titans in French football. PSG come into the match on the back of a victory against Olympiakos in the Champions league.
It was a comfortable victory for the last season’s quarter-finalists, but manager Laurent Blanc thinks that the game against Monaco will be a much bigger test for his team. Monaco already lead his PSG team by two points in the table and they could extend their lead even further if they win the match this weekend. Hence, it is priority number one for Blanc to avoid defeat, while he will also be looking to win the match as well. A victory will put the current champions on top of the table. PSG started the season slowly under Blanc, but they have been improving with every match.
“The closer the match, the more excitement will rise, it will be an interesting encounter to play for both teams. Monaco will want to win, they are one of the best teams. The speed with which they found that cohesion is impressive. They recruited great players like Falcao, (Eric) Abidal, (Ricardo) Carvalho. I saw them against Marseille, and they played a good match. When there are good players, it does not necessarily mean you have to wait several years to get results,” said the former Bordeaux manager ahead of the Monaco clash.
French club PSG have been one of the big spenders in the transfer window once again. The arrival of Edinson Cavani from Napoli has significantly altered the former line-up of the French club, who already most of the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The Swedish international, though, has been constantly linked with a return to Italian football in the last few weeks. This may lead to PSG once again getting back into the transfer window to sign a striker. They have long been linked with a move for Manchester United’s hitman Wayne Rooney.
The 27-year-old has expressed his desire to leave Old Trafford a few months ago. He will cost in the region of £ 30 million, which would not be a problem for PSG. His wages of around £ 200,000 per week will also be very miniscule for the club, which recently spent £ 55 million on Cavani. However, Rooney is not one of the players that the club is targeting right now according to manager Laurent Blanc. He recently replaced Carlo Ancelotti at the French club. Since the last few weeks, there have been several changes at PSG including the departure of technical director Leonardo.
This has been followed by a drop in interest for Rooney.
“Wayne Rooney is a magnificent player but we’re very well covered in attack. We have to see what we can do in midfield. If there is another arrival, it will be in this sector,” said Blanc. The arrival of Cavani, who was chased by the club for several weeks, is thought to have reduced their appetite for the striker. The club, though, have not still finished their summer business because they are targeting at least the semi-final place in the Champions League this season. They were knocked out in the quarter-finals last time around.
PSG managed to come out of the first leg quarter-final Champions League match against Barcelona with a 2-2 draw. However, PSG manager Carlo Ancelotti was disappointed after the match as he questioned the integrity of Barcelona striker Alex Sanchez. Ancelotti said that the Chilean international took a clear dive in order to win the penalty late in the match. The penalty was converted by midfielder Xavi and it looked to have given Barcelona a strong foothold in the tie. However, an injury time goal from Blaise Matuidi helped PSG get back on level terms and give them hope going into the second leg at the Camp Nou.
Ancelotti said that the 24-year-old Sanchez conned the referee in order to win a penalty. Even though PSG have managed to draw the match, they are at a disadvantage in the tie due to the away goals conceded. Ancelotti has said that he has several occasions of Sanchez diving in order to win penalties. On the other hand, Ancelotti said that is extremely proud of his players to fight back on two occasions to level the match. Earlier, Lionel Messi has given Barcelona lead in the first half only to see their former striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic equalise in the 79th minute.
“Alexis looked for the goalkeeper, it was not a penalty. It was a gift from the referee. We have experience with Alexis, in the friendly in August he also dived. We know him. He likes to dive. It is nothing new. It was a good game. We played well in the first few minutes but it got complicated. We used a lot of energy to level the score. We have opportunities for the return game. It is still open, even if it will not be easy. We showed that we can compete against Barca,” said Ancelotti.
